- I think one of the best small outboards ever made is the Tohatsu/Nissan 9.8 HP 2 stroke. Only weighs 59.4 lbs. (same as the 8 HP). Quiet, powerful and easy on fuel. I think they quit making them in early 2004, but there may be a few new-old-stock still around. Kingsteven18: posted 07:21 AM ET (US).
